Taylor series review

We will start this section of the course with a review of Taylor series (1 class). The Taylor series notes will also be useful for later sections in the course.

Nonlinear algebraic equations

But these notes are the bulk of this section.

Reference in course textbook for multivariable nonlinear systems, using Newton's method

Unfortunately, the course textbook has poor treatment of this topic due to the fact they treat nonlinear equations before linear equations! So it is spread over two parts:

  • section 6.6 (page 167 in the 6th edition)
  • section 9.6 (page 267 in the 6th edition)

The derivation I presented in class was from the textbook by Borse. You can download these scanned pages for this section, but only from a McMaster IP number/computer.
