Announcements (previous ones)
- New Assignment 5 (updated on 25 November) is posted.
- Two more questions on the topic covered this week (Drying) will be posted on Tuesday.
- Updated: The midterms were returned in class on last Friday. Grades are now posted to Avenue. I've had a chance to analyze the data:
- The average grade for the midterm was 71.2 (median was 72) with a stdev of 13.9, which is a little higher than I prefer. The distribution is mostly normal, with a slightly heavy left tail. There is nothing in the grades to warrant adjustment (i.e. "curving").
- Assignment 5 has sufficient bonus grades to boost your grade; in addition to the take-home exam that's been dropped and course grades redistributed.
- As mentioned in class, I apologize for the delay in grading. Overhauling this course while teaching it for the first time, and teaching 4N4 for the first time has just used up all my spare hours.
- For issues regarding the midterm grading, please see Kevin regarding questions 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, and see Daryl for the others.
- Some of you might be confused by the modified grading for the course. Here's a spreadsheet to plug in your grades and see what happens.
- The class for 4M3, on Friday, will be the course wrap-up lecture. It is also the last week to pick-up any old assignments and midterms: I will bring them to class everyday on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; after that I will destroy uncollected material.
- Could I please ask you all to seriously consider filling in a course evaluation at https://evals.mcmaster.ca - they are really helpful for me to update and shape the course for 2013. Evaluations close on 30 November.
