  • There was an unfortunate typo regarding the surface area of a sphere in the exam. If you used the incorrect version in the exam it will certainly not count against you: we will work with either the incorrect version, or the correct formula, which is of course \(A = 4 \pi r^2\).
One must use the area of particle and relate it to the equivalent area of the sphere. This is because in drying, the heat and mass transfer to dry the solid takes places on the surface of the particle, not in the volume of the particle.
