This emphasizes the advice you will see on the exam: ''If any part of the question seems ambiguous, please make a clear and reasonable assumption, and continue your answer.''

Chemical Engineering 4N04

Date: December 14, 2012

To: Students in 4N04

From: T. Marlin

cc: K. Dunn

Subject: Troubleshooting Chapter

Professor Dunn has shared with me some of your successes during the course. I expect that you are exhausted but proud of your accomplishments.

I am writing you concerning the [[Process_troubleshooting_-_2012 | Troubleshooting chapter]]. It was a first draft that I hurried to make available to you for this semester. After review, it is apparent that I hurried too much and did not catch some errors. The error that might confuse you as you prepare for the final involves the major example that is used throughout the first half of the chapter - The Drooping Temperature. The text references to some instruments are not consistent with the drawing in Figure 9.6. (I wrote the chapter; then, I decided that the figure was not adequate, so I redrew the figure with much more detail, inadvertently changing instrument numbers.)

To help you study, please consider the following guidance on the instrument naming.

Temperature control In Fig 9.6 = TC30 In the text = TC1

Feed Flow In Fig 9.6 = FC3 In the text = FC1

Fuel Flow In Fig 9.6 = F1 In the text = F2

Thanks to Professor Dunn for pointing out these errors. Sorry that they remain in the version that you have available.

Best wishes on the exam.

* New: After the 4N exam, please feel free to join your colleagues and friends at The Phoenix to celebrate the end of term. There's a reservation for 30 people, under the name ''Chem Eng 4N'' from 15:45 onwards on Monday, 17 December. See you there.
* Many of you found the ''Personal Finance'' part of the course interesting. May I suggest you look into a longer [https://www.coursera.org/course/financialplanning free course being offered online from Coursera]. For those of you not familiar with Coursera, please [http://www.coursera.org/courses read their website], as this emerging trend of MOOC's (massive open online courses) is really picking up, and is an effective form of SDL.
